Within the home and hobbyist space, UV resin and 2-part epoxy are the two most commonly used casting resins. They’re frequently used for artistic purposes such as creating jewelry or decorations, but also within electronic projects in order to provide extra support or protection. This talk will provide a brief overview of the materials properties, advantages and drawbacks, safety considerations, and pitfalls to watch out for. A walkthrough of the casting process will be given during a live demonstration, with the resulting item being available for handling and examination at the conclusion of the talk.

Custom cheap, easy and safe badges - without starting from scratch

I've got a badge design that can be customized and mass produced for as little as $5 in quantity. My hope is that instead of starting from scratch, people can start with this, do a little (or a lot of) customization to either the hardware or software, and have a really good chance of delivering a working electronic badge on a predictable schedule.

The badge is based on an [RP2040](https://www.raspberrypi.com/products/rp2040/), (cheap), programmed by editing a [CircuitPython](https://circuitpython.org/) text file (easy), and powered with a standard AA or AAA battery (safe). By the time we have this workshop, the core badge design will have been used for two separate conferences, and have been professionally assembled as a prototype and for production both by quick-turn and specialized PCBA services.

Everyone should bring a laptop and install [KiCad](https://www.kicad.org/download/) and/or a good text editor for python code ([Mu](https://codewith.mu/), [VSCode](https://code.visualstudio.com/download), etc). Everyone will get a fully functional prototype badge to work with and keep.

Private Computing with Fully Homomorphic Encryption (FHE) Circuits

Running computations over encrypted data you can't read sounds fundamentally impossible, right? It turns out, with the eldritch abomination known as Fully Homomorphic Encryption (FHE), you can! Leveraging the power of lattices, the TFHE scheme allows Bob to evaluate binary circuits over your ciphertexts without your secret key. He can then send it back to you and then you can decrypt it!

In this workshop, we'll
* Journey through the basics of FHE and the TFHE scheme
* Ignore most of the math to keep things fun
* Show how to turn any binary circuit into one compatible with TFHE
* Use Mr. Circuit(TM) to automate the transformation
* Demo the circuit running with real(TM) cryptography
* Explore a few possible use cases

Afterwards, you too can play with Mr. Circuit to your heart's content and build your own circuits from a self-contained Rust starter project.

This talk will take you through the basic capabilities unlocked by zero knowledge proofs and the tools that builders can use to leverage them for real world projects. Then we will be specifically breaking down how exploitability proofs work and how they can be leveraged for automated bug bounty triage, which in turn can create economically backed security claims, leading to fully automated security metrics on the global software supply chain.

I created an AI persona called Bastet, and launched a bunch of Ethereum smart contracts to manage a sustainable funding mechanism, then built a Discord server to track various efforts in security research. Her followers can offer their tribute, and convene with Bastet about staying safe online. She then ensures that researchers get paid for making positive contributions to the global state of computer security.

Weather Balloon Launch

No it’s not a Chinese spy balloon!
We are launching a mid-altitude weather balloon much smaller than the ones previously in the news with a ham radio tracking device using the (APRS) protocol over ham radio using the call sign K7HAK-12 in to the Jetstream and racing it around the world.
My goal is to have it find neutral buoyancy at the same altitude as the middle of the Jetstream around 7 miles high and ride the Jetstream around the earth. The tracker is a Skytracker built by Bill Brown (WB8ELK), the APRS module that will be providing telemetry during the flight is powered during the sunlight with two small solar panels and a couple super capacitors. It will be hauled by a Yokohama balloon.
Its telemetry will be visible via RF locally on 144.390 and then it will be visible on aprs sites like https://amateur.sondehub.org/ https://aprs.fi

In this workshop, we’ll give you a Virtual Machine (you just need a laptop with a 64-bit Intel or AMD CPU, and VMWare player or Workstation/Fusion installed). We will write a very simple DLL from scratch and compile it in Visual Studio, then reverse engineer it in IDA free and x64dbg. Then you will get source code and a builder for a full featured backdoor that uses Teams to send commands and receive results (working demo only if we have Internet connectivity) and we’ll start reverse engineering that to show how to get started. You can take these home to continue learning.

After a small intro into the radare2 ecosystem
- into emulation in radare2
- a look into the source, r2pipe and how to automate binary analysis steps
- writing bots into memory
- positioning of bots
- parameters to be tuned
- how to build small bots
- a great battle in the end!

DIY Retro Arcade - using off the shelf parts, Evo Linux, a Raspberry Pi and a Jamma board

How to build an arcade system using easily sourced off the shelf parts, a micro SD card with Evo Linux in a Raspberry Pi. We will leverage a standard Jamma board and wiring harness.

Requires a little rudimentary 3D printing experience for printing mounts for the Raspberry Pi and Jamma boards.

This can be used in a full size arcade cabinet with a CRT and controllers OR connected to a flat screen monitor and simple controller set you build yourself or a controller pad you pickup off ebay or amazon.

I have systems at home using both a fully hand built arcade cabinet and a MacGyvered a.k.a. "Frankensteined" semi-portable setup.

Learn what one-time pads are, how they work, and how to make your own.

Why one-time-pads? One-time-pads are great for:
* Authentication: Is that *actually* your grandma asking you for $400 towards the down-payment on her new boat?
* Sharing passwords with your parents
* Bootstrapping other encryption methods

They are an important tool for cases where you don't trust any computers or want to communicate with someone else who doesn't.

See [[this post]](https://nathanmcrae.name/blog/practical-one-time-pad.html) for a preview of the content.

My friend and I thought the TA-1042 telephone looked really cool, but nobody know how to make it work with switching equipment. With the help of an old IEEE paper and some old fashioned oscilloscopery, we managed to reverse engineer the state machine and figure out enough commands to make it function. The result was a custom open-source interface board and firmware based on the RP2040, which allows switching between 4 phones and interfacing the data over USB with a Nick's first custom USB protocol. I've done a series of YouTube videos on this you can check out beforehand.

Futel: How Creating North America's Fastest Growing Public Telephone Network Fulfills Our Objectives

The technically interesting parts of the project are about coordination and motivation. Why do we do it? We are always trying to find ways to turn our stupid obsessive quests into something that brings us advantages, whether imaginary or real.

To keep the project alive and reliable for nine years we have had to learn and apply skills in many different fields, IT engineering, social engineering, municipal engineering, whatever. As hackers, this has been its own reward, but for the project to be sustainable it needs to benefit its workers.

This talk will discuss how we find these advantages and use them to motivate ourselves and our cohort to achieve our goals, and how those goals have shaped the project. It will then devolve into our approach to technological art and public service, and how the constraints of the hardware gives us the freedom to reach or at least confuse people.

Is compliance the problem or do you just have bad security practices?

Engineering and security compliance often butt heads— compliance bugs engineering to do something, engineering says they can't add it to a sprint, compliance goes above their heads to do it anyway. It's a tale as old as time, and it's a tale that generally results in animosity for both parties. But what if there was a way to foster a better relationship from the start, so both teams can work toward a common good?

10Gb for <$1000: Speedy Homelab on a Budget for Self-Hosting and Other Shenanigans

I recently went though the process of upgrading my homelab to a 10Gb network stack.

While it seemed daunting at first, once I figured out the hardware selection, it wasn't as bad as I thought it might be.

In this talk, we'll cover the following:
- Why? (Why not??)
- Hardware Selection, on a budget
- Configuring a Linux router from scratch
- Getting the uplink working, with or without your provider's help.
- Configuring a simple and secure network architecture through VLAN segmentation
- Routing / Wireless configuration
- Firewall rules and policies to not get pwned
- Further resources for learning / self-hosting

So what are you waiting for? Still loading? Okay, I'll wait.

Some familiarity with networks will help but isn't totally required (I'll cover the basics). We won't go deep on network concepts, but instead provide the tools and knowledge needed as a launching point for your own 10G homelab.

Hands-on IoT firmware extraction and forensics of Amazon Echo Dot eMMC flash

After the intro, we will focus on the chip-off method of eMMC/eMCP ICs. In the workshop you have the opportunity to replicate the findings of the paper "Amazon echo dot or the reverberating secrets of IoT devices" [1].

Participants will have the opportunity to work in groups and be provided with an Amazon Echo Dot Gen2. After tear-down, you can use different methods (e.g. Hot air, IR soldering) to remove the flash chip and read it out. Optionally, the tools to re-ball and re-solder the IC will be available. In the end, each team should have the data and a functional device again.

It is strongly recommended, that participants read the paper [1] before joining the workshop. Tools will be provided.
