DESCRIPTION:This informal hands-on workshop is about turning my talk "Ships
 potting - An Introduction to AIS" into action.\n\nThere will be two indepe
 ndent topics to explore:\n1) Setting up your own AIS receiving station wit
 h an RTL-SDR or a specialized AIS receiver. \n2) Decoding and processing l
 ive AIS data streams with Python\n\nI will bring a few AIS receivers and a
 ntennas\, and there will be a live AIS data stream of local ship traffic o
 ver wired or wireless network.\n\nWhile anyone is welcome to shoulder-surf
 \, hands-on participants should bring a laptop.\n\nIf you want to setup yo
 ur own AIS receiving station\, bring an RTL-SDR dongle (optional). I recom
 mend to install AIS-catcher ahead of time to placate the internet gods: \n

 ill bring binaries for Windows\, but installation for Linux and MacOS requ
 ires an internet connection.\n\nTo hack on the live AIS data\, only Python
  is required. I recommend to pip install the Python packages aiscat\, pyai
 s\, matplotlib and sqlite3.
